This audition basically focus on Articulation, Musicality and Tone. Tone production is VERY important, those with improved tone will have realized they improved quite a bit in points. Articulations, Mr Chiang and I have pointed out what we wanted for the 2 pieces and that's why, I don't expect any MAJOR mistakes in those. Hope everyone does realize what I am focusing on this time round and stop thinking is about your mispitches that caused all the low marks. It is normal that you all will mistpitch during audition due to the tight tension in the room. Thus, as long as you get the right notes for majority of the piece. Some mispitches are fine.
I still have people playing wrong notes at this juncture of time. I do think they need to study their score carefully.
For tempo wise, the purpose of having a metronome inside while auditioning is to make sure you are on time so you won't slow down or go fast. Also that shows that for this audition, tempo has lesser percentage in affecting your marks. Rhythmic patterns can easily solved with metronome too and that shows I am giving way for ALL in the rhythmic patterns UNLESS you are that bad in those. If not nothing much will happen to your score.
Lastly about musicality, it is more about how you phrase that line of music. What kind of emotion you are going to bestow it with. Everything is counted. Breathing point is the BEST way to determine how you phrase your music. There are some people who NEVER listen to instructions and breathe at VERY WRONG places. I should say those players are seeking for trouble, since they are breaking a line or 'sentence'. That's also the reason why everyone was tested on Q and some slow parts.
So now you know why, everyone was tested at different places of the 2 pieces. So it was practically pointless to stand out audition room and listen, since everyone got a different testing area.

The PASSING mark for this audition is 58 points as this is the MEAN mark of everyone.

Out of 31 people who passed 17 from Woodwind and 14 from Brass.
Out of the 17 Woodwinds that passed there are:
4 Flutes
5 Clarinets
1 Bass Clarinet
1 Oboe
1 Bassoon
5 Saxophones
Out of the 14 Brasses that passed there are:
3 Trumpets
3 French Horns
3 Trombones
3 Euphoniums
2 Tubas
That results have somehow achieved our LEAST number of people aimed for SYF. There are some that has potential to do well but never. So please work harder.
Those who failed please take note that you will be given special score from Monday onwards. Please play according to the special score from now on. Your NEXT audition for those who failed will be in March, so please get your parts played perfectly by end of feb (as stated by Mr Chiang).
